Position: Full-time, Permanent

About the team and role

As the Head of Climate & Environmental Impact, you will report directly to the VP of Sustainability and serve as a core member of Strawberry’s central sustainability leadership team. In this role, you will lead the organization's overarching work on climate action, the circular economy, biodiversity and environmental stewardship.

Your primary focus will be developing and driving our environmental strategy, carbon accounting, and resource efficiency initiatives. Your goal is to minimize the organization's environmental footprint, ensure strict regulatory compliance, and create measurable results that benefit both the planet and the business. To achieve this, you will work cross-functionally across HQ departments and Operations, ensuring that environmental sustainability is deeply integrated into daily hotel operations and capital investments.

What you’ll be doing

  • Drive Environmental Strategy: Own the Climate & Environmental strategy by setting science-based targets, environmental priorities, and KPIs for the group.

  • Lead Carbon Accounting & Risk Mapping: Manage greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting across Scope 1, 2, and 3. You will identify, assess, and map physical and transition climate risks to support corporate adaptation strategies.

  • Achieve SBTi Validation & Scope 3 Reductions: Finalize our 2030 environmental targets, submit them for Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) validation by 2027, and build a strategic roadmap with internal stakeholders (like Procurement and F&B) to reduce Scope 3 emissions.

  • Ensure CSRD Compliance: Map existing environmental policies and develop a formal Climate Transition Plan to fully meet ESRS/CSRD reporting requirements ahead of the 2028 cycle.

  • Drive Resource Efficiency: Lead initiatives to reduce the usage of energy, water, and hazardous chemicals, while actively reducing general and food waste across our hotels.

  • Empower Daily Operations: Launch the first iteration of practical environmental data dashboards, develop circular economy frameworks, and create playbooks that simplify sustainable operations for hotel teams.

  • Partner on Technical Execution: Collaborate closely with the HQ Facility Management team and the Energy Controller. You will set the strategic energy reduction goals while leveraging their technical expertise to advise hotels on structural implementations.

  • Create Commercial Value: Oversee green building certifications (e.g., Nordic Swan Ecolabel), establish strict environmental criteria for suppliers, and support Sales and Marketing with robust data to strengthen B2B tenders and RFPs.

What we’re looking for

  • Deep Subject Matter Expertise: 10+ years of proven experience in environmental strategy, corporate sustainability, and carbon accounting (Scope 1, 2, and 3).

  • Regulatory & Framework Knowledge: Strong understanding of statutory ESG reporting and compliance, specifically CSRD and ESRS, and experience preparing targets for Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) validation.

  • Strategic & Analytical Mindset: Ability to map complex physical and transition climate risks and translate environmental data into a step-by-step strategic roadmap.

  • Operational Pragmatism: A talent for turning high-level environmental targets into practical, actionable playbooks and toolkits that non-experts (like hotel operations teams) can easily adopt.

  • Strong Cross-Functional Collaborator: Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with diverse departments—from Facility Management and Procurement to Sales and Marketing—to drive initiatives forward without direct reporting lines.

  • Commercial Acumen: The ability to connect environmental metrics and green certifications to business value, supporting customer dialogues and commercial RFPs.
